Psychological Services For Adolescents & Teens

As children grow into teenagers, the way in which they express themselves changes and that means counselling must also shift to engage with their newly acquired skills. At CARE Psychology, our first goal is to connect and engage with your adolescent or teen so that they can feel supported while navigating this new phase of life.

Treatment may involve traditional talk therapy, expressive therapy (such as art, sand, drama, or movement), EMDR, or a combination of approaches.

Individual Counselling & Therapy

Therapy and counselling can help youth better understand themselves, how they think, feel, act, and relate. This process can lead to new perspectives, improvement of their healthy relationships, development of adaptive coping skills, and regulation of their emotions and behaviours.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative therapy approach that’s based on the understandings of the brain and how memory networks function. EMDR Therapy can help adolescents and teens understand how the past influences the present, heal from their past trauma, and allow them to move forward.

Expressive Therapy

Sometimes it can be difficult for youth to fully express themselves through words. Play and expressive therapy can help adolescents and teens to express their perspective, feelings, and emotions through art, sand, movement, and drama.

Group Counselling & Therapy

Group counselling and therapy may be offered throughout the year to address a variety of topics and concerns. Past sessions include: emotion regulation, mindfulness, social skills, anxiety, adaptive coping skills, stress management, healthy relationships, and more.

Family Counselling & Therapy

Sometimes, the best way to help your teen is to engage in family or parent-teen counselling. Family therapy aims to help your family work together through any challenges you may be facing.

Psychological Assessment

A psychological assessment provides information to develop a better understanding of your child’s strengths, needs, and areas for growth. Through this process, appropriate recommendations and strategies are provided so that you can capitalize on your child’s strengths, help them grow, and inform intervention.
